Recently, I met a 26-year-old young man living in unimaginable conditions. His home—once a place of shelter and rest—has become unlivable due to years of extreme hoarding, untreated mental health struggles, and overwhelming life circumstances. What’s even more heartbreaking is that he’s been silently battling this alone, without support, for years.

When I first walked through his door, I was met with the smell of mold, piles of debris, broken windows, a non-functioning bathroom, and no working kitchen appliances—no fridge, no running water. His home had become a danger to his health, and yet he continued to go to work every day, trying to survive. He’s undocumented, which makes access to basic help and resources even harder.

But he is not beyond hope.

With the help of a few friends, we’ve already begun the enormous task of cleaning and clearing. But we’ve quickly realized this is bigger than any one of us. This young man needs a village. He needs a fresh start, a clean space, and a chance to heal mentally, physically, and spiritually.

He is kind, humble, and wants to get better. He’s just never had the support or tools to climb out of the hole life dropped him into. With your help, we can give him back his dignity, his health, and a safe place to rest and recover.

Hola a todos, mi nombre es Joselyn y les escribo con el corazón lleno de esperanza, pero también con urgencia.

Hace poco conocí a un joven de 26 años que vive en condiciones que, sinceramente, rompen el alma. Su casa—el lugar que debería ser su refugio—se ha vuelto completamente inhabitable debido a años de acumulación extrema (hoarding), problemas de salud mental no tratados y una vida llena de dificultades.

Cuando entré por primera vez, lo que vi me impactó profundamente: moho por todas partes, basura acumulada, ventanas rotas, un baño completamente dañado, y sin cocina funcional. No tiene refrigerador, ni agua corriente. Vive en condiciones inhumanas… y aún así, sigue trabajando todos los días, tratando de salir adelante como puede. Su situación migratoria complica aún más las cosas: no tiene acceso fácil a ayudas del gobierno o servicios comunitarios.

Pero él no ha perdido la esperanza.

Con la ayuda de algunos amigos, comenzamos a limpiar y a sacar todo lo que ya no sirve. Pero nos dimos cuenta muy rápido de que esto es más grande de lo que podemos manejar solos. Este joven necesita apoyo, necesita una nueva oportunidad, un espacio digno donde pueda comenzar a sanar.

Él es una persona buena, humilde, y con un gran corazón. Solo necesita el apoyo de alguien . No podemos cambiar su pasado, pero sí podemos cambiar su presente… y su futuro.
