Give a Foster Child a Room to Call Their Own
Imagine growing up without a bedroom of your own—no safe space to dream, rest, or just be a kid.
That’s the reality for many foster youth. Constant moves. Shared spaces. Hand-me-downs. And often, no place that truly feels like home.
My name is Peter Mutabazi, a foster and adoptive dad, advocate for vulnerable children, and founder of the Now I Am Known Foundation. Over the years, I’ve welcomed over 30 children into my home—each one carrying untold stories of loss, resilience, and hope.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
The smallest spaces can make the biggest difference.
A room that’s designed just for them—with their favorite colors, books, bedding, and personal touches—can be the first time a child feels seen. Valued. Known.
⸻
Our Goal: $100,000 to Transform 20 Foster Youth Bedrooms
We’re launching this GoFundMe to fund 20 full room makeovers for foster youth across the country. Each makeover costs around $5,000, covering:
• Paint and décor
• Custom bedding
• Personalized items (books, photos, posters)
• Furniture and storage
• Volunteer labor and logistics
Whether it’s a superhero theme or calming pastels, every design will reflect that child’s unique personality and dreams.
⸻
Why This Matters
These room makeovers aren’t just cosmetic. They are a physical representation of dignity, identity, and belonging.
One child told us, “This is the first room that’s ever felt like mine.”
Another whispered, “I didn’t know people did this for kids like me.”
⸻
How You Can Help
No amount is too small.
• $25 = Paint & décor
• $100 = Bedding & books
• $500 = Partial room sponsorship
• $5,000 = Full room makeover (includes a personal thank-you note and name mention)
Your gift creates more than a beautiful room. It creates a memory—and a message that says:
“You are known. You are loved. You belong.”
⸻
I’m also hoping to welcome two more foster children into my home soon. But to make that possible, we’ll need a bigger vehicle—
We’re fully committed to completing all 20 room makeovers with the first $100,000 raised.
If we’re blessed to go beyond that, additional funds will help us purchase a larger vehicle, so I can foster two more children and bring them safely into our growing family.
From My Heart to Yours
As someone who grew up on the streets in Uganda, I know what it’s like to feel invisible. But I also know what one act of kindness can do. A stranger once gave me a second chance—and now, I get to do the same for these incredible kids.
Join us.
Let’s transform rooms—and lives—together.
