Give a family man a fighting chance

Hey, my name is ando, friend and admirer of Mauro; a dedicated family man and a master barber whom has just been told has a brain tumour. He left a beautiful seaside town on the central, Adriatic coast of Italy to come to Canada. Why, you ask? I've been to Mauro's hometown of Silvi Marina and I ask myself the same question.

Mauro wanted to give his family a better life and expand their opportunities and their worlds. In May of 2017, Mauro came with his devoted wife Elena and their then 12 year old daughter, Roxanne.

Seven and half years and 3 working permits later along with tens of thousands of dollars spent on Immigration lawyers, Mauro is no closer to getting his Permanent Resident Card. As a result? No OHIP!

Mauro joined our community barbershop and in no time, became the favoured barber, many of our members preferred to sit in the master's chair.

He and his wife have filed their taxes every year and paid whatever instructed, they have no debt to the Canadian Government.

In the last week of January of 2024, Mauro began experiencing painful migraines along with nausea. A week later he's told he has a tumour that requires emergency surgery to remove.

As I write out this story of Mauro, he is being prepped for surgery to have the tumour removed. Mauro has no OHIP to cover his medical expenses. His wife, who hurt herself on the job over a year ago, has been dealing with chronic pain as a result and, to add insult to injury, was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.

The situation for Mauro and his family have gone from bad to worse: With no income and medical expenses about to mount, the situation has become critical.
