Why do two twenty-something American women want to run 26 miles for Afghan women?

Being a girl comes with a burden. The burden is how girls are "seen" around the world in their communities. The burden is that girls are seen with limitations regarding what their life can be about. That burden can feel less heavy if more girls were seen as people who can go far in their careers and life choices. So we are running TWENTY SIX MILES for an organization (AIBA-Afghanistan Independent Bar Association) that provides on-the-job training to female defense attorneys in Afghanistan.Ten thousand dollars will provide a three-month course to ten Afghan women. Ten more #girlsgoingfar. a time.  Please support us and donate $26! #runl

Join our commitment because we only need 400 people to donate $26! AIBA is committed to giving females a chance to practice law so that they can get credibility in the field, real-time cases on work on, and also be the face of a new future for female lawyers.

Sheffy and Carly started running to see how far they can go and to test the limits of what it means to be a girl.

Sheffy: I started running to find freedom. Even though I have a career, I am a graduate student, a writer, and an athlete, I struggle (like lots of other women and girls) to be seen as a full person. But the further I ran, the stronger I felt, and the more I knew I could go beyond what others had envisioned for my life.

Carly: When I started to run, I felt lonely and self-conscious--like people thought I was too fat to run. Now when I tie up my shoelaces, I am alone--and okay that way--and I no longer judge my womanly shape. Now I see that my body is strong, and I am powerful. Running has become a message of self acceptance.
