Help Us Gift Auntie Frieda the Freedom of Mobility
Our community is blessed by elders whose quiet sacrifices laid the foundation for the thriving Muslim community we enjoy today. One of those pillars is Auntie Frieda Muwakkil.
Auntie Frieda and her husband, Uncle Azzam Muwakkil, were among the first Muslim families to move from New York to Arizona decades ago. At a time when our community was small and still finding its footing, they opened their hearts, their time, and their energy—becoming a backbone of the Muslim community in Phoenix. Many of us grew up knowing their warmth, generosity, and unwavering presence.
MashaAllah, Auntie Frieda continues to stay active, engaged, and deeply connected to the community she helped build. Recently, however, she was forced to give up her car because the payments became unmanageable. This has made it difficult for her to maintain the independence and mobility she deserves.
We are coming together to raise $16,000 to purchase a reliable car for Auntie Frieda and cover one full year of insurance, so she can continue to move freely, attend community gatherings, appointments, and stay connected without worry. Our friends at Fayad Auto have generously offered to help us source a dependable vehicle that will last and, inshaAllah, be low-maintenance.
This is more than a car. It’s a small token of gratitude. A way to honor a woman who helped build our community by giving her the gift of autonomy, dignity, and independence.
If Auntie Frieda—or the community she helped nurture—has touched your life, we invite you to give what you can and share this fundraiser with others.
