A Note From Mike:
"As some of you know and some do not, we are the Gibby's. We have had quite the wild journey in the last few years. Liz had a bout with cancer that tried to rob her/us of so much, but God had another plan. His plan was, is, and will ALWAYS be better! The effects of treatment left us with some battle scars, but she remains 100% cancer free and healthy! All that is another chapter in our book. Fast forward to now…
We have always had a heart for children and hoped to someday have children of our own. "Our" plan was to always have a child naturally and adopt the second child to complete our family. In trying to have kids of our own, we found the bigger problem of cancer in Liz. As a result of treatment and prevention on cancer returning steps were taken that removed natural childbirth for us off the table. But God surely wasn’t done with us! Ever since we dated we have wanted to adopt and have a very diverse family. I've always joked that our Christmas card needs to look like the cover of a Social Studies book (Liz is mixed and I am white). We've looked into adoption domestic and international agencies and we honestly didn’t think afford it. Also, with Liz's previous cancer history, we were disqualified from most international and some domestic agencies. After speaking to God and each other about this, we basically had come to the conclusion that if the door of opportunity to adopt didn’t open in 2018, we will just keep living life the way we are now with no children. We would find other ways to make a difference… to leave a legacy. We had peace with this and gave it all to God. We had kept looking into other routes (foster care, guardianships, etc). Well, He has some sense of humor and timing because we now have an opportunity to adopt! He truly is the God of miracles!
Just a few weeks ago, we were approached about this possibility. We didn't know what it would look like or how we can get there, but we gladly wanted to take on the challenge! The child will be born somewhere around the first or second week of December! You read that right December of 2018! Yeah, that's pretty quick! The birth mother seems to be a wonderful, determined girl that just isn't ready to take on motherhood. We are so thankful for her and all the people in her life that has guided her and connected us. God has lined up an awesome team to help us through this. From people that we consider family- to people that we have just met, it has been amazing and beautiful story so far! I wish there were time to go into all the doors that have opened and the threads that have been sewn together in what is nothing short of amazing!
We are crazy excited and a little terrified at the same time. Welcome to parenthood, right? We know God will be glorified and will make a way for this miracle to happen in all of our lives. We love you all and thank you for being such a huge part of our lives!"
Update from Becca:
Our family is excited to welcome this sweet little guy, and we thought we had six weeks to get ready. However, this morning we got a surprise phone call that he was ready to come into the world. He is here, and is healthy!! The due date was calculated wrong, so no worries about prematurity. God has had His hand on this baby since conception, and He will continue to work all things for good. Mike and Liz need our help. They have so many hurdles to overcome in the next few weeks and months including lawyer and home study fees, travel expenses, healthcare for the mother, and more. Many of you are already jumping to meet the physical needs in baby gear and clothes, but I also feel compelled to ask everyone to donate financially. I want them to be able to focus completely on their new son, and any amount that you can give will make that more possible. They hate asking for help, but their goal is to stay out of debt in bringing this child into their home. This has happened so quickly, so if you can help them in this adventure, thank you! If not financially, I simply ask for prayers and support through this. We are amazed at how God has provided time and time again and we know He will not disappoint.
