Angelito Collective x The Celebration of Black Trans Women Cookout: A Collaboration Rooted in Joy, Liberation, and Collective Care

Angelito Collective and The Celebration of Black Trans Women Cookout (CBTWC) are proud to come together in a collaboration that honors the power, resilience, and joy of Black trans women. Our shared purpose is to create spaces where our community is seen, celebrated, and supported—where we are not defined by struggle but by the abundance, creativity, and love we cultivate for ourselves and each other.

As we embark on this next chapter, we are looking to raise $50,000 to support this mission. These funds will allow us to continue creating life-affirming spaces, provide direct support to our community members, and build the infrastructure necessary to sustain this work long-term.

Funds raised will go to support the following:
  • Food
  • Materials and Equipment
  • Production of BLACK TRANS LOVE Merchandise
  • Talent and Entertainment
  • Transportation
  • Sustaining Future Programming

Why We Exist
Both Angelito Collective and CBTWC were born from a deep need to counteract narratives that focus solely on the hardships trans people face. We recognize the violence and systemic barriers imposed on our communities, yet we choose to center something even more powerful: our joy, our liberation, and our right to thrive.

The Celebration of Black Trans Women Cookout was founded to provide a space of celebration for Black trans love, an opportunity to come together in public without fear, to experience joy, and to receive tangible support through mutual aid, resources, and community fellowship. What started as a one-time event has grown into an annual gathering that uplifts and empowers Black trans love, with the goal of establishing a day in August as The Celebration of Black Trans Women Cookout.

The Angelito Collective’s Black Trans Dinner Activations serve as a response to the urgent crises of food injustice and housing insecurity affecting trans women in New York City. By redistributing wealth, providing nourishing meals with locally sourced ingredients, and offering financial stipends, we create sustainable community care models that directly support our most vulnerable members. These dinners are more than just meals—they are spaces of connection, healing, and empowerment, ensuring that trans women not only survive but thrive.

Looking Ahead: 2025
As we continue to build and expand our work, our vision for 2025 is to elevate The Celebration of Black Trans Women Cookout into a multi-experience festival that celebrates the lives and achievements of Black trans women on an even greater scale. This festival will serve as both a cultural moment and a political statement—a bold rejection of the anti-trans legislation across the country and a powerful declaration of our community’s right to exist in joy and abundance.

The space will function as a living art installation, activated by artists and community members, amplifying the voices of Black trans women while bringing awareness to oppressive transphobic laws nationwide. Through artistic expression and community engagement, we will create monuments to freedom and liberation, featuring messages of hope, empowerment, and resilience throughout the festival space.

Why This Collaboration Matters
At the heart of our work is the belief that Black trans joy is radical, necessary, and transformative. By merging our efforts, Angelito Collective and CBTWC will create new models of community care and resource-sharing that uplift our people in deeply meaningful ways.

Together, we will:
  • Expand access to essential resources, including food, transportation, financial aid, and wellness services.
  • Create intentional spaces for Black trans women to feel seen, supported, and celebrated
  • Strengthen community networks by bridging nightlife, activism, and mutual aid efforts
  • Amplify the cultural and political impact of Black trans-led organizing, showing the world that we are here to stay

We move with passion, care, and deep intentionality, knowing that the love we pour into our community will always return tenfold. Our joy is resistance. Our care is revolutionary. And together, we will continue to redefine what it means to hold space for each other in a world that too often seeks to erase us.
