Get Warm Project Outreach Days 2020-2021

WELCOME TO GET WARM PROJECTS 10th SEASON ANNIVERSARY, COVID-SAFE EDITION!

WE HEARD YOU, AND SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY

Due to COVID19, our outreach has had to adapt, and in consideration of the new restrictions, we've had to make the hard decision that we will not be opening our outreach days to volunteers as normal. We care about the safety of our volunteers and recipients, and want to keep our community safe! Instead, for the outreach portion of our season, we have partnered with local outreach organization Lookout Housing and Health Society's Vancouver resource center: Powell Street Getaway !

We'll be dropping off ALL DONATIONS to Powell Street Getaway , located at 528 Powell Street in Vancouver and we are more than pleased to ensure that these much-needed items will be distributed to those in need within our DTES community.

This season, we have a goal of collecting and building at least 500 bundles, each one filled with winter survival items that can help keep individuals protected and warm during the bitter cold months.

(Most items can be purchased in bulk at Costco - we can facilitate a purchase for you with your donation and receipts/proof of purchase can be provided upon request.)

OUR FOUNDER:

Sara Rose McKenna is a philanthropist and community connector. Starting her journey in charity and non-profit over 12 years ago, she's founded a number of social initiatives and has sat on the board of local charities such as Face of Today, WECanada, Opportunity International, imagine1day, Team Awesome, and more. Passionate about COMMUNITY, CONNECTION and WELLNESS, Sara focuses her time on creativity and contribution.

Get Warm Project is a local non-profit volunteer-based initiative. The goal is to make GWP an official charity that can run all year round providing those in need the items to survive. In order to get there, we are looking to add a few key team members, external partners, and collaborators to take this from a holiday initiative to a year-round outreach.

We are focused and determined to get into this and gain forward momentum with it. I am looking to learn from others who have accomplished building organizations such as this and who might be open to sharing with me their experiences and advice.

Our needs are endless, so there’s an opportunity for contribution to the cause such as:

• Digital Media support
• Charity Development/Mentorship
• PR & Media Relations support
• Sponsor/Partner Acquisition
• Donations
• Website
• Content Creation
• Bundle Assembly on Outreach Days
• Funding for the needed items

Over the last 10 seasons of operation, we have successfully collected, built, and distributed over 10 000+  #GetWarmBundles to those directly in need, and we've had over 300+ volunteers support us in our outreach days. This season is our 10th annual season since we started, and we aim to build and hand out at least 500 new bundles this 2020/2021 season.
