Getting Care Packs to kids affected by flood

I was affected by the floods in Mullumbimby. It was scary, overwhelming, painful and downright sad. Ecological grief set in.  My thoughts went to kids experiencing this event.

My thoughts were many during the floods but what kept nagging me was “How do we expect kids to process this? How are they going to deal with this shit in the future” Many families lost everything. Many children lost everything. 

As an educator, I know the power of drawing, painting, crafting, writing poems, journaling and so on for processing eco-anxiety and ecological grief. 

 

So my friends and I want to create CARE packages that can be delivered to flood affected areas of Lismore, Mullumbimby, Ballina and smaller hamlets.

 

We want to share the LOVE!

 

Care packages will include coloured paper, pencils, fine point pens, journals
for processing thought, art books, charcoal, paint, pencil cases, art sacks, beads and much more. We will make sure that the packages age appropriate for babies, children and young people.

Donations will only be used for materials. We will be donating our time and energy getting these Care Packs to children.  

 

Allowing kids to express themselves will be a part of the healing process. Rage on paper, cry in your craft. We will also add flower seeds to bring hope.
