With the 4,000 dollars we raise, Sustainability Projects Abroad (SPA) will be able to purchase 100 Hollow Fiber Membrane water filters, provided by Filter of Hope. The aftermath of the hurricane on Puerto Rico has taken more than 900 American lives in less than two months. The risk of an island-wide water-borne illness outbreak is imminent if unchecked. Our aim is to mitigate the disaster Hurricane Maria has caused, and bring relief to Puerto Rico.
On January 2nd to 14th 2018, SPA will be on the ground in Puerto Rico partnering with local community leaders and aid workers to survey water quality, train locals on how to use Hollow Fiber Membrane water filters, and employ LiveWaterMaps , an online website for crowdsourcing and mapping water quality for anyone, anywhere, anytime. SPA is sending a team consisting of Nicolas Duenas, Ricardo Valdes, Natalia Dilan, Hector Carrasquillo, Leah Leshchinsky, and Bryan Chua.
If you want to get involved or know contacts in Puerto Rico we can partner with, please feel free to contact us at [email redacted]
