Our mission is to secure Sydney a safe home!
Sydney was born with a condition called Cranium Bifida, which means that his bones in his head didn’t form properly and he was born with water on his head. Due to these complications at birth, he was fitted with a stunt (which drains water and regulates the pressure in the brain), and has undergone various operations throughout his life regarding this. Despite being told when Syd was born, that he would be unable to do anything, Syd has learnt how to walk and communicate in sign language against all odds. He is completely deaf but has very keen sensitivity to vibration and music. He is a happy and strong character, who is very bighearted. His vision is limited but he does have some use of his right eye, he is a fighter and has made such terrific progress over the years.
Due to Syd’s disabilities, he needs a lot of help with his everyday life. It is important for Syd to have people working alongside him who he knows and trusts. Last year Syd’s dad and sister, (his closest family and who he grew up with), had to move Syd out of the arrangement he was living in as he was very unhappy. He was showing signs of discomfort and neglect in his own home and it couldn’t carry on.
All year we have been working hard on getting him a place closer to home and with a great team of care staff, and have made some great progress. It’s great to see him put on weight, get healthy and generally be a lot happier and more active! The next dream for us is to try and secure Sydney his home permanently, so he is safe from ever having to be at the mercy of private landlords, and be closest to the people who care about him and love him. He is absolutely thriving being back and we would really love to keep it that way. Anything we can raise would mean the world to us!
We have found a house which would be perfect for him, and we have the opportunity to buy! There is a scheme available, which allows severely disabled people apply for their own mortgages, we will apply for that, however we need to get together a deposit for the scheme, and of course any other money we can raise would go towards the buying the house! We appreciate any help anyone can offer towards our project of securing Sydney with a safe home! Maybe we can make a miracle happen for this little man, we would be eternally grateful.
