Get our Rich out of homelesness
Donation protected
Hi,
As some of you might be aware our friend Richard has been homeless for a bit over a year now and for this reason will be leaving Manchester in June to go back to his hometown, close to where Dracula lives or something like that. This is not a decision he made happily.
We are currently working with him on solutions to help him save money in order to get him back to Manchester, where he feels he belongs.
As Rich is a well known supporter of the independent music scene of Manchester, we thought we would make a public appeal for funds and help get him back on track. It took some convincing for him to agree to have this Gofundme page, so I REALLY hope it lands well.
Getting Rich back into an accommodation is a complex issue. There is obviously the inability for him to save for a deposit due to being on a low income, as well as poor mental health resulting from this and feeding the inability to save money or see any solution to this crisis. Someone on my instagram feed quoted a song from Taylor Swift a few days back, and it said something like "I'm so depressed I act like it's my birthday everyday" (did I just quote Taylor Swift? No I did not). If you've ever been in a place where you have found yourself unable to see any hope you might be able to relate. And damn homelessness DOES feels like the end of everything.
Our plan involves more than just a fundraiser, as we want to make sure he is homed in a durable manner, but this will be the starting point.
We are looking at getting him back to Manchester late summer/early autumn. After checking roughly how the awful housing market looks like, we've been able to find accommodations with deposits as low as £450, and rents about the same (some are cheaper but we don't want to get our hopes too high up with the current housing crisis). The idea is to get enough money for, ideally, deposit + 1st month of rent but as this is a large sum we are aiming mostly to get help with the deposit.
With this being said, if you are unable to help financially but know of someone who owns a property/has a cheap room around Manchester or would be able to provide him with employment please do contact us.
Thank you for reading!
