Help Seth and Justine Survive

Hi, I’m Justine. I’m a grassroots organizer, and I’ve been dealing with a politically motivated case for the past four years now (the case turned four last May 2025). It’s been a long, exhausting fight, and I’ve had a standing warrant of arrest since August 2021 — all because of my activism.

I’m no longer working full-time on the ground, but I still volunteer online to support national democratic causes. Because of my situation, it’s been almost impossible to find formal work. I rely mostly on occasional small online gigs, but it’s not enough to cover everything.

Right now, the apartment I rent is not just my home — it’s also a safe space for at-risk youth from the communities I’ve worked with. Keeping this place going is crucial, but it’s getting harder without steady income.

If you can help in any way — whether through donations or by sharing this — it would mean so much. Every little bit goes a long way in helping us survive and continue this small but important work.

Also, if you know of any online or informal work opportunities where my safety and security won’t be compromised, I would be more than willing to take them on. I can do writing, basic photo editing, and proofreading. Any job, big or small, would be a huge help.

And I'm Seth. I'm also a grassroots organizer and activist and have been for 15 years now, as well as a transgender man. When I started this fundraiser to support my best friend and comrade Justine I was in a place of relative privilege as an international student in Canada with access to student assistance and some social programs.

Unfortunately, due to transphobic policy changes I became ineligible to renew my passport at the start of 2025, meaning that my student visa would expire before I could finish my degree and apply for permanent residency and could not be renewed.

I looked into legal options to stay in Canada, but with xenophobia and transphobia on the rise worldwide there was no guarantee of success, and since I was unwilling to face deportation back to a country where my existence is being criminalized I decided to leave everything except my two cats and return to my grandmother's homeland to join my friend in hiding and fighting for a world where no one's life will be in danger for their identity or beliefs.
