My name is Adam, and last month my father, Mike, (affectionately known as Dadcro) sadly found out that he has lung cancer, which is now stage 4, and both inoperable and incurable.

He’s started chemotherapy and immunotherapy, to at least help suppress the growth in his lung. Sadly after this started, he’s become much weaker and a lot less mobile, which culminated in several falls, and an infection which resulted in him being taken into hospital where he is still recuperating after a week.

At his home we have made several accessibility changes to make life safer and comfier for him and my mum, but the one big obstacle at the moment is the stairs.

Their bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs, and as they both now have real trouble with the stairs (my mum has COPD and gets extremely breathless using the stairs), I’d like to get them a stairlift as soon as possible to make their lives better and safer.

I’ve researched local stairlift companies and their ratings etc, and to get a decent stairlift for them I’m looking at around £2500. It’s slightly less for a refurbished unit but I’d rather get them something new and well appointed. I’ve put the target at £3000 as this would also cover callout and maintenance fees for a while, but if it can also go towards getting a wetroom installed to replace their bathroom as my dad has trouble getting in and out of the bath at the moment.
