Let's get Alex a new hip!
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Lily, I'm Alex's daughter (that's me in the background of the photo). I'm fundraising for my Dad to be able to get a left hip replacement.
Anyone who knows my Dad will be aware of his dedication to the natural world, and in particular to the ocean and marine life. His lifelong passion has been to dive in the sea and take photos of the amazing wildlife that he finds there.
Since his retirement and moving permanently to live by the sea, Alex has been involved in some prominent nature conservation projects in his community - researching, photographing and disseminating information in support of their cause. At the same time, he and his wife, Tamara, also have a great love of birds and provide a sanctuary for injured or abandoned wild foundlings in their home, where they give unlimited, loving care to each bird until it's well enough to be returned to the wild. Both of them have been working as volunteers at the local serpentarium and wildlife centre for nearly 9 years, taking care of the birds and some other animals that live there.

They are also active members of a large group of volunteers who regularly clean the shoreline and the seabed of literally tons of rubbish, from microplastics to disintegrating fiberglass wreckage of yachts, all of which pose a serious threat to wildlife.

Even now, at 80 years of age, Alex still takes part in this very physical volunteer work. But this is increasingly difficult for him, due to the pain and immobility in his hip.
Without the operation that he needs, his volunteer work, as well as his diving and underwater photography days, may soon be over, along with his sense of self-worth.

Due to his current circumstances, his only option is to have private treatment and he is not in a position to afford the operation. So, we are calling on friends and family for some financial support.
Your donations will go towards the cost of the operation and the rehabilitation. If you can help - in any way - please do give today. Every little helps!
With Gratitude,
