Some of you might know that Gerry’s husband passed 7 years ago. He had a brain injury stemming from his service in the Navy for 23 years and it turned to dementia. During the 10 years of his illness the government wouldn’t pass his disability to pay for his care so Gerry, Roz and I used everything we had to pay for his care as we were struggling to care for him at home with his medical needs. He got disability approved 10 months before his passing after a 10 year battle and we were able to get him into the Veterans home in the dementia unit and he eventually got pneumonia and passed comfortably at the hospital just up the street surrounded by the 3 of us. We started paying off the debt from his care but if you can imagine it was steep to have in home care when he was still at home. Dads life insurance was used to pay the debt we took on as well. After we had a little time to process what had just happened in our lives, Gerry started updating the house to eventually sell it. It was a slow process because again funds were low and month to month. Then covid hit, Gerry found herself out of a job and almost lost her home. Eventually, we were able to do the updates and get the house on the market, and it sat for 9 months until just recently due to all of the changes in the market. Gerry is trying to secure a small affordable home and has been denied a loan from the bank to purchase because of the struggle during covid. We are so devastated by this and I had to do something for her. All she has is Roz and I. This fundraiser while it may seem strange is for a down payment for her new home. If you can donate anything to Gerry we will forever be grateful to you. She’s been though a lot like so many others have as well, she deserves to be able to live the rest of her life with her kids and grand babies. I thank you for taking the time to read our story. Anything donated will be to help Gerry’s down payment.
