Geoff’s Story
Donation protected
Geoff Wyatt is our much loved husband, dad, grandad and great grandad who throughout our lives has loved and protected us fiercely .
On 16 June 2022 his and our lives were tragically and cruelly shattered after he had a fall and taken to hospital with excruciating pain in his neck and shoulders. During this time Geoff developed pins and needles in his hand which quickly spread to his leg. He was diagnosed too quickly and incorrectly as having a stroke. Geoff received stroke treatment and afterwards was transferred to high dependency unit where the pain in his shoulders and neck continued and was swiftly taken for X-rays which confirmed our fears that he had in fact broken his c5 c6 in his neck. It was also confirmed that because of receiving incorrect diagnosis and the delay in treatment for this injury it had severed his spinal cord leaving him permanently and irreversibly paralysed from the neck down it was also ascertained that he had not suffered a stroke.
He was subsequently transferred to yet another hospital who performed major surgery to stabilise his fractures.
He spent 11 weeks in high dependency where he remained critically Ill on a ventilator. Finally at end of august he was admitted to the Princess Royal spinal injury unit where he still resides with no discharge date yet discussed as he has had multiple chest infections and is still ventilated. Geoff now has no prognosis of any movement and will need 24 hour care first he rest of his life and can no longer communicate with his family due to being ventilated.
Prior to this Geoff had led a very active life he was a keen gardener, loved holidays with his family and was a snooker fan attending the crucible a few weeks before the life changing event.
We are trying to raise funds to adapt the garden so at least Geoff can sit in his wheelchair and enjoy his surroundings possibly to help buy an adapted vehicle so we can take Geoff out also for additional medical equipment all of this has been a very hard time for Geoff and for his family both mentally and financially. This is why we have decided to share Geoff’s story. Thank you for reading Geoffs story and helping us raise this target.
