Help 50,000 HBCU Students & Alums Build Generational Wealth

Donation protected

Joyful Day,

I am Ruby "SunShine" Taylor—a proud double HBCU alumna of Howard University and Virginia Union University, a Black, disabled woman, and the founder of Financial Joy School.

In 2012 I suffered a traumatic brain injury and my life drastically changed. My career as a school social worker ended and I was put in a financial and physical crisis. I was on the verge of homelessness because I had no savings or investments and I don’t come from generational wealth.

I realized that although I had degrees and dedicated my life to helping others as a social worker, no one had ever taught me how to build wealth for myself or my family. I had no investments. No savings. No plan. And I am not alone.

The truth is, Black families—and especially HBCU students and graduates—are still being left out of the generational wealth building.

The racial wealth gap continues to widen, and projections still show that by 2053, the median net worth of Black families will hit $0 if we don’t act.

But we will act.

I’m on a mission to donate 50,000 Generational Wealth Kits—including our award-winning LEGACY! Card Game and a step-by-step financial empowerment guide—to HBCU students and alumni. Because both current students and graduates deserve to know how to invest, build, and create generational wealth.

Even now, when DEI is under attack, we stand taller. We build smarter. We prepare the next generation of HBCU leaders—whether they’re in the classroom or in the workforce—not only to lead, but to own, to invest, to thrive.

Imagine thousands of HBCU students walking across graduation stages, not just with degrees, but with the tools to build wealth for generations.

And imagine HBCU alumni—whether one year out or twenty—finally receiving the knowledge and tools that were never offered before.

For just $33, or more, you can put a Generational Wealth Kit into the hands of an HBCU student, graduate, or families and help us close the racial wealth gap with joy and equity.

We’ve been left out for too long.
But we are rewriting that story—together.

Join me. Donate. Share. Let’s build Financial Legacies.

Now, we’re on a mission to empower 50,000 families—starting with just $33 per household. Will you help us spread financial joy?

We’ve had support from banks, corporations, and generous individuals. Our work has been featured in Forbes, AfroTech, Mashable, Inc., CNBC, and more. But as DEI priorities shifted, funding disappeared. The problem didn’t.

Our Day 1 goal is to raise $33,000 to send 1,000 kits to 1,000 HBCU students/alumni. That’s just the beginning. We're scaling this movement to reach 1,000,000 families by 2053—the same year Black family median net worth was projected to hit $0.

We are rewriting that story—together.

Why Now?

Because DEI is being rolled back, and our communities are being left out—again. Because I’ve lived what it means to survive:

- Growing up without access to wealth
- Navigating life with a disability
- Rebuilding after divorce
- Supporting my family even when I was drowning financially
- Raising children while carrying the weight of generational struggle

Because I know what it’s like to feel like wealth isn't meant for you—and what it’s like to discover that it is.

We’re not waiting for systems to fix themselves.

We are saying YES—to our families, to our futures, and to generational wealth.

Here’s How You Can Help:

✅ Donate today—$33 changes a family’s financial future
✅ Spread the word—we’ll send you a toolkit to share on social media
✅ Find 10 friends who believe in EQUITY, LEGACY, and JOY

This is personal. This is powerful. This is possible.

Will you join us?
