It is with a heavy heart and sorrow we create this page in remembrance of Gemma Crane, who sadly passed away on the 12th May leaving behind two wonderful and beautiful boys, Hugo and William, and her partner of 14 years, Matt. Gemma was just 45, when a life full of enjoyment was cut short much earlier than she could ever have imagined.
In December 2024, Gemma was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer that had spread aggressively throughout her organs, Gemma herself being a specialist cancer nurse knew all too well how this was going to affect her. She however continued to carry on life as normal, regularly in the Gym most mornings, taking the boys to and from football and the park, out visiting friends and socialising as much as she could do, working in her role at UCARE, an Oxfordshire charity dedicated to improving the care and treatment of urological cancer, she was as always determined to carry on as she always had.
However, with Gemma's knowledge in this field it was anticipated her life expectancy would not exceed January 2025, this spurred both Gemma and Matt even more to find a solution, they immediately started integrated treatments and therapy which saw Gemma’s tumour markers drop by 36% prior to Gemma doing her one and only round of chemotherapy in early January.
Despite the ongoing fight, Gemma and Matt did have cause for celebration when on March 13th they finally tied the knot in front of only a few friends, Hugo and William to become Mr & Mrs Smith, a day enjoyed by everyone involved, a day with huge emotion and huge happiness that will live long in the memory.
Gemma and Matt continued to fight in a roller coaster period where one day the light at the end of tunnel could be seen, to then a day of frustration, with regular trips all over the South East and London there was cause for optimism, however in early May her condition worsened and she was hospitalised. Whilst in hospital her condition did not improve, on the week commencing May 5th her condition dramatically declined, which led to Gemma sadly passing away on the 12th May with Matt by her side, as he had been every step of the way.
This gofundme page is to support the costs of those alternative methods used by Gemma, which accumulated to just under £60,000, these alternative methods at the very least gave Gemma four more extra months with Matt, Hugo and William, to Gemma these months were priceless. I ask you to contribute what you can, Gemma will be truly missed both as Wife and a Mother, but also as a Friend to many people
Finally, for those who have not seen the tribute from Matt to Gemma, please see below:
It’s with shattered hearts that we share the passing of our beautiful wife, mum, daughter, sister and friend, Gemma Crane.
There are no words big enough to describe the loss we feel. Gem was the centre of our world — the most loving, courageous, funny, and fiercely loyal woman you could ever hope to meet. She gave everything to those she loved and fought with unimaginable strength until the very end.
We take comfort in knowing that Gemma felt so very loved — by all of you — right up until her final moments. That love carried her, and us, through the darkest days.
Right now, our focus is on Hugo and William — helping them feel safe, supported, and surrounded by love. What they need most is a sense of normality and the gentle kindness of those around them. Please, above all else, hold them close in your hearts.
We’ll share details about Gemma’s funeral and celebration of life when we’re ready (6th June, 12:25pm - Aylesbury Vale Crematorium). When the time comes, we’d love for you to join us in honouring the incredible woman she was — a woman who changed so many lives with her warmth, her humour, and her fierce love.
Thank you for walking this road with us. Your affection and support mean more than we can say.
