*Update *
This go fund me was originally set up to raise money for Mabon and his family to have days out when he was well enough to come home.
Heartbreakingly Mabon could no longer fight his long battle he’s fought for 8 months and has passed away peacefully in Gem’s arms.
I know most of the people in our town have heard this devastating and horrific news but I felt this page needed to be shared again and to make people aware that the go fund me is still active and will now be changed to helping with the cost of funeral arrangements and well needed family time for Gemma, Stu & Elsi in the near future.
It’s with such a heavy heart I write this and I’m utterly heartbroken for my amazingly strong best friend Gemma, Stu and Elsi.
If you could kindly share this post it would be much appreciated by not only myself but gem and her family.

I’m Carmella a friend of Gemma who is going through the worst time of her life with her son Mabon who is currently in Alder Hey fighting for his life.
I have 2 girls, Medi (9) and Cerys (7) who would like to raise money by walking & cycling 100 miles in August for Gemma, Mabon & Elsi.
An insight as to why Medi & Cerys want to help raise money for this beautiful family:
Mabon is Gemma’s son who has just turned 4 years old. He has undergone heart surgery the Rastelli (double switch) on May 9th, this operation was more complex than first thought and he was in theatre for 14hrs, he was really poorly and so fragile for the first week before starting to recover. 3 weeks into his recovery he deteriorated and it was discovered that he had a perforated bowel. This led to emergency surgery to save his life. The infected abdomen quickly led to sepsis and he went on a special blood filtering machine to save his kidneys which had been badly affected. As he got slightly stronger he went through another operation to remove some more infected bowel and then a further operation to put in a stoma, he will have the stoma for at least 12 months, maybe for life.
As he has been in ICU for so long he has developed muscular myopathy which means he is very weak. Mabon will have to have an unknown amount of physio to get him stronger, he’s been in ICU for 12 weeks now and is still on the ventilator.
His road to recovery is going to be a very long and slow process, months or maybe years, at this stage we just don’t know.
Mabon, Gemma and Elsi are very close to us as a family and we would be so grateful if anyone could spare some pennies to help make their life that little bit easier during the worst time of their lives.
Medi & Cerys will be cycling / walking 50 miles each a total of 100 miles throughout August to raise money for such a beautiful family.
All progress the girls make will be documented and posted on social media.
Thank you for taking the time to read and supporting this beautiful family during the worst time
Carmella, Medi & Cerys
