GecoVillage - A New Off Grid Village in Spain

About Us: We are a group of four friends who know each other for many years. Over the years, we built our families and careers. We started to dream and talk about buying a land and create an ecological off-grid project 11 years ago.

we started a long research and search for a land. Originally, we didn't have a specific continent or country preferences. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we realized that Europe in general and Spain in particular can offer us what we are looking for. We traveled the country for few years until we discovered the Sierra de Gredos in 2020 (by chance - we looked for a campsite on the way from north of Spain to the South).

We fell in love with the peaceful energy of the area, the green nature and endless of springs and rivers. We learned that the locals call the area "the forgotten land". The mountains hills full of oak and pine trees, lavender and rosemary bushes

Now, two years since the first time we visited our land and endless trips to the area, we are ready to start with the first phase of our journey - the creation of the base camp. We are inviting people from around the world to join us, as partners, visitors and volunteers, to create a unique and special experience in the heart of the Sierra de Gredos.

Our Vision: Build a green eco village which focuses on sustainable lifestyle. A place where we share similar values and build a better future. Develop a community that emphasizes the importance of a balanced lifestyle for the benefit of their own mental and physical health, emotional stability and self development. Our mission is to build a village that works towards a better planet for us and our children's future. A community that creates a positive impact on the environment.

Our Mission:

Co-Existence with Nature - We will develop a balanced and healthy life with nature which includes two main projects: a rewilding and a permaculture. 

Our Rewilding project will focus on preserving the existing natural systems while developing more ways for the local animals and plants to grow back stronger. We will keep open borders with almost no fences and spread food points throughout the land for birds, fishes, and wild animals to be able to access it. We will also plant trees and bushes along the land and set up resting areas for wildlife. 

Our Permaculture project will be led by Aya Lev and focus on several sub - projects. Vegetable gardens, food forest, educational program for families and workshops. Our goal is to rely on the productions of our farm without reliance on external services such as markets and groceries stores.

Community - We will develop a strong community of people from around the world. Our farm relays on volunteers who will be able to work on different projects such as construction, education, cooking, operation and more. We hope to meet as many interesting people as possible and we are sure that together we can achieve great things. 

Our dream is to accept more people as permanent residents and partners. People who share our vision. People who would like to live a more relaxed and sustainable lifestyle with a stronger connection to nature. If you are reading this, and feel the same - you might be right for us!

Education - We aim to develop an inspiring educational program for our kids on the land. A program that will reconnect our kids with nature, help them to learn about the important synergy between us, humans, and animals and plants. The program will allow the kids to explore the wonders of our world through art, music, multidisciplinary projects, language, mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, geometry, cooking and more. 

Renewable Energy - Over the next years, Spain will become one of the leading countries in the world for renewable energy. Extremadura has the first solar energy farm in the country. Our land is bordered with two rivers. Oure vision is to rely on renewable energy only. Learn to live a comfortable and balanced lifestyle with what nature gives us. We will generate green energy from the start. Our goal is to operate the entire farm with solar, wind and hydraulic energy and to use the natural resources to create clean energy for us and for the visitors. 

Sustainable Businesses - Whether it's a food market, an organic café, a festival, a coworking space or a retreat center, we will focus on working local suppliers, build strong relations with other farms around us, and aim to minimize the negative impact of our businesses on the planet. We already know that we will operate them using renewable energy. We already know that we will grow our own products (as much as we can).

Balanced Lifestyle - We want to slow down. We want to enjoy our life. Without the day to day rush. Without excuses. We dream about waking up in the mornings, seeing our kids running around nature, picking up fresh vegetables and collecting fresh eggs. We want to live the life that we are dreaming about. A life full of experiences, good people. A life where we can really listen to others. To other ideas. To other points of views. We will create a balanced life where we can connect with nature. At a natural pace. Without being on the phone all day. A life full of meaning. A life to remember.
