Support Families Affected by ICE Detentions
Donation protected
I am raising funds to help pay the bond of two recently detained community members, who have been pointed in my direction by amazing MCPS ESOL teachers who are trying to support their students whose parernts--in each case the primary earner for the family--were picked up recently by ICE.
The funds would be used either to pay the bond directly, when possible, or to pay an attorney who can help the families secure the lowest bond possible if they have to go to court to get a bond. (The immigration system: Complicated.)
Any leftover money will be kept for the next case. In the unlikely event my ESOL friends don't need to help more families, I will donate whatever balance there is as of July 1 to AMICA Center, which does incredibly, ongoing, heroic work for detained noncitizens.
I'm receiving the funds into my own bank account, so yes, this takes a level of trust in me! (I'm hoping I've earned that trust over the years, and I'm highly doubting anyone would donate who doesn't know me personally, and that's fine!)
Why the crocus photo? Because it's my favorite metaphor flower: beautiful things can grow through the tough landscape of winter.
