Gavin William Stark Memorial Bench and Scholarship

Thank you to our amazing community – we are overwhelmed by the donations that keep coming in! It is clear how many of us loved and respected Gavin, and how much we all want to make sure his legacy lives on.

We have raised more than enough for the memorial bench and now we are focusing on the scholarship.

There are two options:

• Donate here via Go Fund Me (no tax receipt provided)

• Wait for the TDSB portal to be set up by Riverdale Collegiate and donate there (tax receipts provided for donations over $25)

We will be working with Riverdale to get the portal set up as soon as we can, but we cannot tell you how long it might take.

Our names are Mirixi Brasileno-Luu, Sam Halpin, and Kamron Thumm and we had the great honour of knowing and being very good friends with Gavin Stark.

This fundraiser is dedicated to a memorial bench in loving memory of Gavin William Stark to be placed in the Erica Stark Parkette.

Gavin William Stark, at the age of 19, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 8th, 2025 from a rare and aggressive form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Gavin was diagnosed in the fall of 2023, while attending his first year at Dalhousie University, leading him to return home to Toronto. Gavin William Stark - Obituary

The funds gathered from this fundraiser will be directly used to create a memorial bench including a plaque dedicated to Gavin, located at the Erica Stark Parkette, at 208 Bain Ave, Toronto ON.

The Erica Stark Parkette was a very significant location in Gavin's life as it is named after his mother, Erica Stark, who passed away tragically on November 6th, 2014. Having a memorial in Gavin's name at this parkette would be a great place for family, friends, and the community to honour and commemorate his life.

Any donations to this remembrance are very appreciated. Our hope is to have the plaque placed on the bench on the one year anniversary of Gavin's passing, June 8th, 2026. Once this plaque is in place, we will encourage everyone to come and visit. The rest of the proceeds received will go towards a scholarship at the high school Gavin attended, Riverdale Collegiate Institute in Gavin's name.
