Garden of Tears - Turning Fragmented Sorrow to Sacred Realm of Healing
The "Garden of Tears" is a transformative initiative that seeks to create a semi-publically owned memorialization garden and space in Vattrapallai, situated on the banks of Nandikadal in Mullaithevu in Sri Lanka. This organic, community-owned and emotionally resonant space for individuals quietly to mourn their loved ones(victims from 1971- 2009) solely or as a family- providing them with a profound environment to mourn, narrate stories, celebrate lives, share cherished memories, and honour the legacies of their loved ones who have been deeply affected by the conflict.
In the aftermath of a conflict that has left indelible scars on individuals and communities, the initiative emerges as a sanctuary of healing, remembrance and reconciliation. With an emphasis on organic design and personalization, this initiative empowers victims' families to actively contribute to creating a living tribute that resonates with their experiences and emotions. The garden and space serve as a testament to resilience, strength, and the power of shared narratives.
We have secured 2 acres of land and are seeking assistance to build a memory wall around the property, remembering those who lost their lives abruptly during the conflict. We will plant and nurture trees with the families waiting for their loved ones to return.
Your support will transform memorialization into a tangible reality, offering profound solace to communities that have carried their grief for decades.
