Yoga Farm Garden – Raised Beds & Greenhouses
The Yoga Farm, located in Grass Valley, CA in the Sierra foothills, Northern California has existed since 1971 is an ideal location for growing vegetables and fruit trees. There are many fruit trees around the ashram grounds which were planted 50 years ago when the ashram was first started. Now they are in 2 orchards .
The Yoga Farm Garden has existed for more than 30 years and has gone through metamorphosis and changed locations multiple times.
The current garden location where it has been located for the past 12 years is adjacent to the Radha Krishna Meditation Hall, Kitchen, and is a central location in the ashram. The garden is quite a large area approximately 9,000 fenced square feet.
In the past, we have had seasons where vegetables were harvested in abundance. Now we would like to rebuild the garden and install green houses and raised beds with irrigation and prevent the vegetables from gophers. This will make it much easier and productive to grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs.
Our vision is to build 8 raised garden beds which will be 31 feet in length X 4ft width plus 2 small greenhouses with 4 more raise beds within the garden itself, new gate and fence and a new irrigation system.
Our previous greenhouse was in our orchard adjacent to the property line and needs to be relocated.
All the raised beds will be built from a local redwood supplier and will include metal mesh fencing against gophers, anti-weed block, organic local soil.
We already have a nice garden shed, gardening tools and
frame structures for green houses. We also had established a Mother Earth shrine in the garden representing Peace, Love and Healing for the world.
Our estimated goal to fundraise is a total of $20,000 to have a very good garden. It will be our dream comes through . Karma Yogis and Yogis Nature lovers are welcome to apply for help in this worthwhile project.
We plan many Flower beds, flower greenhouses for pujas and worship ceremonies (we have 10 shrines in the ashram to all Deities representing different aspects of Nature and ideals and we need lots of flowers).
Imagine organic vegetables from different seasons served in the community kitchen, cared for by yogis: chards, green beans, peas, tomatoes, beets, cucumbers, peppers, squash, eggplants, melons, cauliflowers, broccolis, cabbages, Kale, lettuces, carrots, potatoes, parsley, spinach, celery, asparagus.
Our community is a mixture between an alternative health conscious community of yoga practitionners and a vedantic monastery.
Help us entering into our second 50 years of existence with this vision . Celebrate Mother Nature with us!
