After three years of bargaining, Gannett management still refuses to settle a fair contract that would provide a living wage to its employees at the Asbury Park Press, Courier News and the Home News Tribune in New Jersey and the Journal News, Poughkeepsie Journal and Times Herald-Record in New York.
Now, members of the APP-MCJ Guild and Hudson Valley News Guild are prepared to walk off the job.
We are standing in solidarity with our colleagues and the communities we serve, who need local journalism so they can make well-informed decisions about their lives. We are fighting to rise above poverty wages and working conditions that inhibit these efforts.
Going on strike comes at great personal cost for many of us. Going without even one day's pay can be the difference between keeping the lights on and feeding our families.
And so we ask for your help in standing behind them. Funds raised will go directly to the journalists who cannot afford to miss out on compensation, and any leftover funds will go toward strike funds for other journalists' unions, including other Gannett newspapers.
Solidarity forever!
(Note: This fundraiser is led by members of the APP-MCJ Guild and Hudson Valley News Guild, but is not affiliated with the NewsGuild of New York.)
