Hi,
I'm Byron Scrivens and I am fundraising to raise money for a Community project in Gambia. I will attend a two-week expedition with school (a team from Prince Henry’s Grammar School) in summer 2025.
The core activity will be the village hospital community project.
I will be doing various fundraising activities, and through these I will share this link to this go-fund me page.
The project is going to benefit those in North Africa who have daily struggles that are far greater than those for people such as myself in the UK. I appreciate you may not be able to donate but hope you feel able to support me with this very worthwhile cause.
The rural community of Gunjur in Gambia is located on the beautiful Atlantic coast 15 miles south of the capital Banjul. The community of 25,000 has its health needs met by a small local medical centre. Due to the decline in the condition of the hospital's small accommodation units, no members of staff remain on- site outside of normal working hours. This means that it is difficult for the local community to access health care out of hours and medical staff need to commute each day to the hospital.
Working together with a group of local community volunteers, the PHGS team will work to refurbish the accommodation units, allowing staff to remain at work and care for patients during the night. Refurbishment tasks will include mixing cement, screeding walls, concreting floors, making bricks and painting walls.
