In 2020, during a break in the lockdowns, 20 cyclists peddled from Dublin to Lahinch to raise vital money for counseling services in North County Dublin which has seen a massive increase in mental health issues among young people. The following year 40 cyclists did the same thing and over two years we raised 30,000 euros.
To put into perspective, what that equates to on the ground is approximately 600 hours of counseling for young people who desperately need someone to talk to in times of despair.
This year we're going to travel in the opposite direction. Beginning in Galway on the 6th of May and hopefully arriving in Skerries on May 7th, all going well. In this difficult economic climate, we have decided on a modest target of 10,000 euros, which will provide enough money for 200 hours of counseling. If we reach this target there's no telling what the effects of such services can have on not only the individuals but also the surrounding community.
We appreciate any donation large or small and thank you for taking the time to consider helping SYSS and the young people of Ireland.
Feel free to join us in Skerries on May 7th to welcome the cross-country cyclists into Skerries and celebrate the community. Details on location to follow.
