Gabe Scheel medical

We are not ones to ask for help, but they say it takes a village and as we have found out it does. Gabriel was a bright rambunctious little boy when a seizure changed all that when he was 5 1/2.
Gabe is the youngest of 5 boys, who are all very active in sports and activities. Michael has been a school teacher for 24 years, and Tonya has stayed home raising the boys. Gabe Loved the Seahawks and would cheer them on! He was on a baseball team and was joining swim team. This little boy could take his bike off jumps and he was beginning to read... when everything changed.
Gabe suffered a brain injury 4 years ago. For the last 4 years we have been caring for him full time, with daily therapies, out of town intensive therapies where we are gone for 2 weeks at a time. We have done one round of stem cell therapy where we saw improvements with attention, eye movement, head control, and with cognitive abilities. Gabe will now laugh when he thinks things are funny, he will respond with sounds when asked a question, and he can roll to his side. When asked to do something he is trying to figure it out. We have him working on pointing to objects and words on cards. Also one big improvement we have noticed is that we can have a conversation with Gabe. I will ask him questions and he will answer us with a happy mmm sound or gives us the glare with a mmm sound that you know he doesn't like it.
He is far from where he was or where we would love for him to be, but we believe we can get some of that back with some help of you.
We are looking at another round or two of stem cells, followed by hyperbaric and intensive therapies. If we can reduce his tone in his body, get him to use his walker, and maybe get him to help with transfers, it would help save our backs and give him more freedom.

Insurance will not help pay for "out of the box" therapies. There have been so many people that have seen improvements from these unorthodox type of therapies. As Gabe gets older he is getting bigger, so we need to try to get him moving and helping more!

Thank you everyone for supporting us during this time when we find ourselves in a position that we never thought we would be in.
