Gabe Mertens' Children Trust Fund

Donation protected
In collaboration with Gabe Mertens’ family, this money will go toward his children’s youth milestones. I was the class of 2004 president and voted "Most Outgoing" with Gabe so I feel compelled to help make sure his children are taken care.

Gabriel Edward “Gabe” Mertens, 35, of Wolcottville died Monday, October 26, 2020 at his residence.

He was born June 21, 1985, in Kendallville to Edward L. and Sheila M. (Ehresman) Mertens. His parents survive at Adams Lake.

He had worked in excavating for ten years and was currently employed by Miller Signs in LaGrange.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville.

Gabe was, first and foremost, a wonderful dad. He loved fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, and all water sports. He enjoyed gardening and was a great cook. He will be remembered as a great drummer and for his excellent dancing skills. Gabe had a wonderful sense of humor and a heart of gold.

Also surviving are a son, Briar Edward Mertens, at home; a daughter, Journee Riverlyn Mertens, at home; four sisters, Jackie (Billy) Gardner of Middlesboro, Kentucky, Amber R. (Mark) Pfeiffer of Kendallville, April R. (Todd) Holliday of Fort Wayne, and Autumn (Josh) Lehman of Churubusco; several nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Samantha Friend of Angola.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 2, 2020, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church Worship Center, 301 South Oak Street, Kendallville with the Rev. Philip Rigdon officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Pallbearers are Josh Owens, Isaac Owens, Eddie Michels, Jimmy Michels, Seth Young, Ryan Miller, Mason Schlabach, and Terry Grabner II.

Visitation is Sunday, November 1, 2020, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to the service on Monday. You may enter the church from the parking lot on the east side of the church at door four.

Per the Governor of Indiana, face masks are required.

Preferred memorials may be directed to his children. Envelopes will be available at the at the church.

Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
