Hello, my name is Katie, I'm 16 years old, a student at Windsor Girls School and have been given an amazing opportunity in July 2026 to travel to Nairobi, Kenya. I decided to sign up to participate in the trip because I believe it will be a life-changing experience, offering a chance to explore and understand a completely different part of the world while helping those that need it.

I am asking for help in fundraising for my volunteering trip to Africa next summer. I will be spending 17 days in days in Kenya with a group of students from both Windsor Girls and The Windsor Boys School, orgaised by the charity African Adventures.

On our Kenya trip we will be volunteering at a school which is partnered and funded by African Adventures. The school provides free education, food and clothing for children that live in extreme poverty in the slums. They would normally be working on the dump, scavenging for things to sell to support their families. More often than not the school will be providing them with the only meal that they will have that day.

Our volunteer work will not only include teaching assistance but also physical work such as helping to build/maintain the buildings as well as playing sports with the children and helping to give enrichment experiences to their lives. We will also be taking over donations of clothes, toys, books etc.

You may think it is a bit cheeky asking for money for my trip but it is NOT a holiday. It is a trip to volunteer my time and learn new skills and have life experiences which are the chance of a lifetime and that not many 16 year olds get to have. I will be making a difference to hundreds of lives of children who literally have nothing.

The charity encourage us to fundraise for our trip because it helps to raise awareness of them and their work and it helps them be able to continue their mission work. As well as crowdfunding I will be raising funds by working where I can, volunteering my time, organising events, selling unwanted items ... doing whatever I can to raise extra money!!
