VESA Fiji Volunteering Project

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! My name is Kris and I’m a second-year Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology student, studying in Lancaster, England.

A few months ago, Volunteer Eco Students Abroad (VESA) held a presentation at my university about the different types of humanitarian projects they run. The sole idea of being able to travel to a distant community to volunteer to help with its development and sustainability left me quite literally shaking with excitement. Bettering the state of the world has always been among my main goals in life, and the projects VESA offered were an incremental step towards that exact goal.

To my greatest surprise, I was chosen to be among the participants, and set Fiji, July 15th – August 1st 2019 as my project destination. I would be given the chance to personally help improve their living, educational and conservation conditions. All these things I believe are essential to the progress of any society. The construction will consist of working with local villagers to build eco-friendly village compost, rain-water catchment tanks to provide fresh, clean running water and restoring school equipment and buildings.

I will also be given the chance to teach village children English, and something I’m quite excited about – Physics as well, in all its beauty. I’m truly eager to inspire the local community to seek more knowledge and to spark the ardent fire of curiosity within them. Apart from all this, I will also embark on a week-long cultural discovery tour, learning as much as I can about the country and its people!

But despite my ambition to do all this, the project costs (which go directly into building materials, local supervisors and donations to local organisations), combined with the extremely expensive plane tickets render this impossible for me to pay on my own, nor with the help of family, until the deadline (May 10th for transportation costs and June 3rd for plane tickets), which is the reason for this fundraiser. Every small bit will be greatly appreciated and will be an enormous help towards this humanitarian adventure! And even if you can’t afford to help financially, small things like sharing this with friends or on social media will be of help as well!

Additionally, if the campaign manages to reach just £2000, I pledge to dye my hair silver blond and post photos of the process and end result!

Thank you all for your support!
