This is Matthew from Wyoming’s story…

"I’m writing this for someone who has been part of my life since I was a child, our dear friend Matthew Hohnholt. He comes from a family rooted in service. His grandparents, father, and aunt all served, and Matthew followed that path. He enlisted in the Marines right out of high school in 2000 and was among the first sent into Iraq. He also served in Kuwait, answering the call without hesitation.

Matthew has given so much, but the cost of that service is something many do not see. He lives with severe PTSD from combat and survived traumatic injuries. Years in combat boots led to lasting damage that required surgery. Today, he is on disability and unable to work. Even through all of this, he remains kind, steady, and deeply selfless.

After his service, Matthew lived with my husband and me for a time. I saw what he carries each day. He showed up for our family with care and love, spending hours with us and helping care for my newborn daughter. He became her first babysitter, and I later named her after his grandmother, Faye, a woman who meant so much to him.

On October 3, 2025, Matthew faced a loss no parent should endure. His son passed away after struggling with mental health. Before this, Matthew had already lost his home and was living in a small trailer on his brother’s property. Now he is grieving while also facing the weight of funeral costs and daily expenses.

The funds raised will help Matthew cover funeral expenses, find stable housing, and meet basic needs during this time. If you know him, you know his heart.
