This is Debra from Maine’s story…
"Debbie is a Marine Veteran who has always put others first. Even though her time in service was cut short, her commitment to helping people never ended. She later cared for her ex-husband, also a Marine Veteran, until he passed away in 2018 after heart complications.
After his passing, Debbie lost their home. She now rents a small apartment and keeps most of her belongings in storage. It has been a long and difficult time trying to rebuild her life and find stability again.
Even now, Debbie continues to help others, including me and her two grandchildren. She has spent her life giving to people, often without recognition. She is turning 74 in August, and I want to see her in a home where she can feel safe and at peace.
I am her daughter, and she adopted both me and my brother when we were babies. She gave us love, stability, and a future. I live in the same apartment building and see every day how unsafe it can be for her.
I want to give her a chance to feel secure and happy again. She has not felt that in over eight years. Any support would help her take a step toward a home she can truly call her own."
