This is Dave from New Mexico’s story…

"We’re raising money for Dave because he’s not just a story to us. He’s someone we’ve come to know. For the past two years, we’ve seen him on the same corner in Albuquerque. One day we stopped to talk, and that simple moment turned into a connection we won’t forget. Dave is a Veteran who served from 1971 to 1999, and he ended up stranded here while trying to get his family back home to Queens after their RV broke down.

As we got to know him, we learned how much he’s been carrying. Dave is living with kidney failure and COPD, and he is in remission from lung cancer. Even with all of this, he still shows up each day and does his best to keep going.

What really stays with us is his spirit. Dave is kind, steady, and determined. He doesn’t complain. He just keeps moving forward, even when things feel overwhelming.

We started this fundraiser because Dave deserves more than being stuck. He deserves the chance to get home, to be in a place that feels familiar and safe, and to continue his journey with dignity.
