As a family we never could have predicted losing our mom and having a catastrophic hurricane hit our beloved town and area all in one week. We are struggling at the moment to plan a memorial event for mom given that due to flooding so many people around us are now struggling just to get through the day. For now we plan on having mom’s remains cremated and she will be resting at my house (Casey) until we can make arrangements. We would love to have a memorial dinner/get together for family and friends who would like to honor her here in Tennessee. Given the week our town and surrounding towns have had we are honestly unsure of a place and time to do it given the circumstances. We thought of just doing it at Chris’s house but there’s no place for people to park. If you have any advice or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
We do plan on an official, traditional funeral service for mom in Louisiana at St Landrys Parish where we will escort her to join her parents and siblings at St Landrys Cemetery. Again, given the circumstances we will have to do this at a later date. With hurricane destruction to roads, food/gas shortages, jobs, spouses, kids in school, and more going on traveling at this moment is impossible. That being said we will make the pilgrimage to Louisiana as soon as we can so that mom’s family there can honor her and help us lay her to rest.
Instead of sending flowers we would like to request donations be made to help pay for funeral costs. We know with all the tragedies surrounding us this may be hard but anything you send will be greatly appreciated. Any money left over we will donate to an organization locally helping flood victims.
