Funeral Development at Peckham Islamic Centre

'بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Introduction:

From within this beautiful mosque, we aim to create a space to provide a much-needed funeral (ghusl) area for Muslims living within South East London. In Islam, funeral services hold great importance and are considered a necessary part of the deceased's journey towards the afterlife.

Estimated Costs:

It has been estimated that the cost of building the funeral area which includes:

- A refrigerator for storing the body

-An ambulance for transporting the body

-Additional building work

This will all results in a TOTAL fundraising target of £100,000

Importance of funeral services in Islam:

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed that the dead be treated with respect and dignity, stating "Do not curse the dead, for they have entered into the hands of Allah" (Abu Dawud).

Additionally, in the Quran, it is stated that 'Every soul shall taste death, and we will be held accountable for how we have prepared for this inevitable event' (Surah Al-Imran, verse 185).

Therefore, funeral services are essential for local Muslims as it provides an opportunity to fulfill their duty towards the deceased and seek Allah's mercy and forgiveness for them.
