Help us carry Lau’s light forward
Donation protected
We are grieving the sudden and devastating loss of someone so dear to us — Lau, my husband Kelvin’s beloved sister. Lau was not just a sister, a mother, or a friend — she was a light. Strong, joyful, and resilient, she gave everything she had to raise her son as a single mother. Her life was centered around loving him fiercely, protecting him, and building a future filled with hope. Her passing has left a hole in our family that words cannot fill.
Kelvin has always been the rock of our family — a caregiver in every sense of the word. Since 2021, he has worked throughout the LC Valley, including at RiverView Residential, Orchards View, Generations, and Clarkston Health and Rehab. He has stood beside people through some of their hardest moments — hospice care, cancer diagnoses, and so much more — always offering dignity, compassion, and love. He’s held the hands of strangers when their own families couldn’t be there.
Now, we are holding each other as we try to process this immense loss.
While grieving, we’re also facing the financial challenge of covering Lau’s funeral expenses and supporting her son through this transition. We’re not able to be home in Kenya to bury her, but we are doing everything we can from here to honor her memory.
Our family has always believed in serving others. My father-in-law, when visiting us from Kenya, has helped out in the community I was raised in (Lapwai) by gathering huckleberries, tea, and roots. He also helped maintain the Long House grounds with my Tootah David C. Holt and little sister QuietStorm last year. But now, we are the ones in need of help.
We’re humbly asking for your support. Our goal is to raise **\$3,000** to help cover funeral and memorial costs and provide some immediate support for her son during this incredibly painful time.
Whether you’re able to donate, share this message, or send a kind word — every gesture matters. You’re helping us honor Lau, support her child, and carry each other through the unimaginable.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
With love,
**The Mahasi Family**
An update:
with great sadness we have learned that the doctors sedated her because they wanted to finish their rounds and she was scared. The sad things is she was having stroke like symptoms when she went to the hospital and shouldn’t have been sedated in the first place. We as a family are trying to move forward with the devastating consequences of the choices the doctors made.
