Funds to help the Flood victims of Bates Avenue, Blyth

Hello, my name is Kerry, I’m one of over 15 houses affected by recent flooding on our street in Blyth, Northumberland.

I have created this go fund me page along with the other residents who’s homes have been affected by the floods, in order to hopefully raise money to contribute to legal fees and fixing people’s homes who could no longer obtain flood insurance.

Our street, Bates Avenue, first flooded in 2019. However the estate was not yet finished being built and not many people were aware it had happened. More recently, multiple homes were flooded in April 2024, leaving us with thousands of pounds of damage and uninhabitable homes. Luckily at that time, we all had home insurance in place which covered flood damage. Some residents had moved back into their home over the past couple of days. Some due to move back home in the next week.

Unfortunately there are a handful of people whose insurance ended during the last 6 months and they could not find any insurers who could cover flooding again.

Then yesterday, Tuesday 8th October 2024, our street flooded again for the second time in 6 months. This time the flood water was at least 8-10 inches higher and affected even more houses.

Instructing solicitors to look into those who may be to blame for these issues is a very costly expense. As is trying to put our homes back together for a second time. Not to mention the heartbreak we are all feeling, the stress and anxiety every time it rains and the worry of the flooding returning.

Our lives have been completely turned upside down, there are families with new born babies, families expecting babies in the next couple of month, residents who are struggling to deal with everything due to neurodiversity and so on. None of this is the fault of anyone who has been affected and we shouldn’t have been put in this situation to begin with, never mind for a second time.

We desperately need help from professionals to get the right outcome and we would greatly appreciate anything that anyone can help us with.

Any money raised will be fairly distributed between everyone affected and discussed as a group before doing so to ensure we are all agreed.
