Help Us Keep Castlebay Community Hall Safe and Open for Everyone!
Castlebay Community Hall has been at the heart of our island for decades — a place where we gather for ceilidhs, concerts, weddings, school events, fitness classes, and community celebrations. It’s where memories are made and our community comes together.
Now, we urgently need your help.
During recent safety inspections, it was identified that the Hall’s existing fire escape does not meet current safety standards. To keep the Hall safe, compliant, and open for public use, we must install a new external fire escape staircase.
Without this essential upgrade, the Hall’s capacity and use could be restricted — affecting community events, local groups, and future bookings that help sustain the building.
What We’re Raising Funds For
We’re seeking support to cover the design, fabrication, and installation of a new compliant fire escape staircase, along with associated safety works.
• Structural steel staircase (fully galvanised for coastal weather)
• Concrete base and foundations
• Safety lighting and handrails
• Professional installation and certification
Estimated total cost: £30,000
Why It Matters
The Hall isn’t just a building — it’s a lifeline for Castlebay and the wider Barra community. It’s where we come together for music, culture, charity events, and local resilience. Ensuring the Hall meets safety standards keeps it available for generations to come.
How You Can Help
Every contribution — no matter the size — makes a real difference.
• £20 helps fund essential materials
• £50 helps towards the structural steelwork
• £100 helps cover the engineering and safety certification
If you can’t donate, you can still help by sharing this campaign with family, friends, and anyone who loves Barra and our community spirit.
Together, We Can Keep the Hall Safe, Open, and Thriving
Thank you for supporting Castlebay Community Hall. Your generosity will help ensure our much-loved community hub continues to host ceilidhs, concerts, and community events for many years to come.
Let’s build the staircase that keeps our community connected — and safe.
