Community Update: Land at Risk of Auction‼️‼️
Many of you will remember that back in 2013, Denise worked alongside our then ward councillors — Cllr Tom Hargreaves, Cllr Gareth Cross and Cllr Anthony Johnson — and, with the expertise of St Helens Council’s legal team, we successfully halted the sale of our beloved TellyTubby Hill and parts of the surrounding land.
Unfortunately, 15 separate plots on the west perimeter of the estate were sold at that time. Eight of those plots, located at the end of Marigold Way/Japonica, were purchased by the same buyer and land-banked — and sadly, that land is now back up for sale.
The Friends of New Bold group was created precisely because we knew TellyTubby Hill will be at risk again in 2026. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to apply for funding that could help with future legal protection and, if needed, give us the ability to purchase TTH when Greenbelt Holdings come to end of the lease next year.
However, the section of land now heading to auction is a private sale, whilst we have secured a couple of thousand pounds in grants, which is already in our community bank account, at this moment we simply don’t have the funds to buy it or stop the sale from going ahead.
This isn’t the news any of us wanted to wake up to, and it will have an impact on our community.
We have decided to come together, fundraise, and attempt to buy the land as a community to safeguard its future
Urgency is imperative as we only have a week before the auction deadline…..
