Fundraising for Naning'Oi Boarding School, Kenya 2025
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Oscar and I am a second year student at Plumpton College. In March last year I travelled to a remote area of Kenya with my college, while here we volunteered at a primary girls boarding school, which acts as a refuge for girls escaping FGM and child marriage. This experience was totally life changing and will forever be a massive influence in how I view life, appreciate the fortune I have and the morals I hold. The girls attending this school are among the most inspirational people I've ever met and their passion for education is incredible.
Despite the girls being so motivational, joyful and forever singing or dancing they have undergone hardships and pain that many of us couldn't comprehend. The stories I heard from these girls will forever live with me, girls younger than my 7 year old sister already having been victims of FGM and child marriage.
Prior to that trip last year me and my good friend Arthur decided to run a half marathon to raise funds for projects we would be undertaking when at the school, getting many of the staff involved as well. Thanks to the help of loads of generous people hundreds of pounds were raised.
Fortunately I have been selected to return to the school in June. I am incredibly grateful to be able to work again for a cause that is so important to me. This year between February and May I will be running four half marathons: Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings and Bewl Water. This will be quite the challenge as despite having run the Eastbourne half last year, it was and still is admittedly the only time I have run anything close to that distance. Until my first race at the end of Feb, a lot of training is definitely needed!
All money raised here will go towards projects such as:
Planting 1 acre of food garden (tools, plants etc)
Outdoor washing facilities which will allow the girls to wash their clothes
Resources for their library area
Additionally, we will focus efforts on supplying girls with hygiene and stationary supplies.
Any donations are massively appreciated and will give me much needed motivation!
Sandy, the youngest girl at the school, just four years old. Both amazing to meet such a joyful child, but tragic to think the challenges she already has and will face. I am so thankful for Naning'Oi for giving her a home and chance at education.
Naomi was one of many good friends I made while there and am excited to see again. The abundance of quick friends and the welcoming nature of the community at the school was like nothing I've experienced anywhere else. It is my most fortunate opportunity to be able to return and experience it again, and I deeply hope I can make a positive impact on these girls lives, as they have to mine. Any donations make this possible. Thank you :)
