Fundraising for friends and schools in Joal, Senegal
Donation protected
Hello! We're Isobel and Katy and we are just coming to the end of 10months volunteering, teaching English in Joal, rural Senegal. Throughout our year here we have had incredible experiences and learnt huge amounts from everyone here. We've made the most amazing bonds and will always be grateful for everyone here as they have all helped us so much and have welcomed us into their families with open arms. We've been teaching at a middle school where our eyes have been truly opened to the luxuries we have in UK schools and how much we take them for granted. For example, many classes have broken desks which results in the pupils being unable to work properly as they can't write properly and it wastes a lot of class time trying to find working desks. We're trying to raise some money for the school so that they're able to buy some new desks and maybe some school equipment too as pupils often don't have pens/notebooks due to family poverty. We would love to help the school out and gave back some of the kindness that they have shown us. We're also fundraising for our good friend whose family lives in Gambia (neighbouring country). Their family has very little money and therefore our friend had to leave home at 17 to try to find a job here in Senegal. His family's house roof is unfit for living especially now that the rainy season is coming. To fix the roof, our friend's brother will do all of the work himself to save money and it'll cost about £250 to buy the materials. We're planning on running to and then home from the next village along the coast, Mbodiene, with our Gambian friend which is about 10K in total. We know it's not super long but we're imagining that in the heat it'll be pretty difficult and our Gambian friend is a training footballer so doesn't enjoying running distance at all! We hope that you can help us in raising some money for our friend's roof and the amazing CEM Lamine Senghor here in Joal!! Thank you in advance for any help, everything is hugely appreciated!
