Save Castlecomer Plateau: Stop the Wind Turbines!

UPDATE as of the 12/3/25 , the site and paper notices have been published, and time is rapidly running out for us to voice our objections to this development in our community. We now have a critical 6-week window to take action and challenge this proposal. After that, the outcome will be beyond our control. It's URGENT and VITAL that we come together, raise our concerns, and ensure that our community's interests are heard before it's to late, lets act now before the decision is made for us.

The natural beauty and historical significance of the Castlecomer Plateau in North Kilkenny, South Laois are under threat. The proposed construction of 12 wind turbines, each towering at 170 meters, in the townlands of Ballynalacken, Ballymartin, Ballyouskill, Loughill, and Byrnesgrove poses a serious risk to our beloved landscape and community.

Our Cause:

Protect Our Landscape: The Castlecomer Plateau is renowned for its stunning scenery, diverse wildlife, and tranquil environment. The introduction of massive wind turbines will irreversibly alter the visual and ecological balance of this cherished area.

Preserve Our Heritage: This region is steeped in history, with many sites of archaeological and cultural significance. The construction of these turbines threatens to disrupt and possibly destroy these irreplaceable assets.

Community Well-being: The presence of such large structures can have detrimental effects on the health and well-being of local residents, through noise pollution and shadow flicker, as well as reducing the quality of life by altering the rural character of our home.
