Fundraiser for the Family of Eli Rodriguez
Donation protected
Dear Community near and far--please continue to support this family!
Eliborio Rodriguez, father of five, and 20+ year partner to his children's mother, was killed by EPD on November 30th, 2019.
At the time he was killed, Eliborio Rodriguez had a claim for excessive force pending against UOPD. This past April, the University of Oregon settled with the family for an amount in excess of $100K, yet that money is being held in trust until the children are adults and thus can't be used by the family during these crucially formative years with the kids growing up, one of whom was only 3 when her father was killed. The family is grieving and in need now.
We fundraise each month to help keep Eli's partner and children housed.
Occasionally we fundraise for other needs, such as to help with small celebrations for the kids' birthdays. Eliborio and his fourth child share July 27th as a birthday.
Not only had UOPD threatened Eliborio's life, they also fabricated the story by which they tried to justify a call for lethal force. In reality, as suppressed dash cam footage shows, Eliborio was simply riding his bike, minding his own business, when UOPD put his life at risk.
A year and a month later, EPD did take Eliborio's life. Eliborio had again been minding his own business, had plans to meet his children's mother/life partner in just a few minutes. EPD noted "dark clothes and a hoodie" and a "pedestrian violation"--walking off the curb--as justification for having stopped Eliborio. His life partner was nearby and heard the gunshots. EPD wouldn't let her approach Eliborio's body in the moments after he died.
We as a community need to support the Rodriguez family and provide them with material support. Survivors of police violence need and deserve our help.
It is our duty to love and support each other.
