Fundraiser for Moshi school
Donation protected
It all started with Louise & Steven successfully summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro on a charity climb in 2015-6. Every year since, the team including Loraine have traveled back to Moshi, Tanzania to do charitable work in the community.
We continue to support the private education for 7 students and give them access to improved education and future opportunities, including funding their college endeavours. Last year, we discovered a school that requires significant upgrades. While the school now has clean water to drink, they still need utensils and cups. The students do not have access to sports equipment, so it is our goal to bring them hockey, soccer and basketballs so that they can learn about sport using real and working equipment. Furthermore, the classrooms are in dire need of upgrade. This renovation would only cost $2000 USD per classroom. If funded, community workers would be employed to execute the renovation. We would not only be creating employment opportunities, but with updated amenities, we will be making an enormous impact on the teachers and the 500 students studying there.
We have also helped a KILI guide, named Elias, start up his own farming operation. With our encouragement and some “seed” money, Elias and his team now farm vegetables on two large plots of land. In 2018 we helped him expand his farm to grow vanilla—the only vanilla farm in the area! This is the beginning of a great future and important revenue for Elias, his family and his farming team. Elias makes sure his team is looked after by providing them with three, healthy meals a day and access to medical and dental care.
Elias will be our onsite project manager for school renovation projects to hire locals, and supervise execution of renovations & manage budget.
Tanzania and its community have stolen our hearts. Please donate generously as we need your help to continue our work in Tanzania. Our goal is $15,000. All proceeds from this fund will go directly to our causes--the team entirely funds its own travel and expenses each year.
100% of all donations will help fund:
1. Classroom renovations: - new floors, fresh paint to inspire learning – this will be a multi-year project subject to funding goals being met.
2. A chance to take students on a safari: Many students have never seen the big animals of their country. This trip will be an once-in-a-lifetime chance to make these unique memories.
$5,000 would improve 2 classrooms and take 30 students on a one day safari
$10,000 would improve the entrance to the school and school office and send 60 students on a one day safari
$15,000 would improve the entrance to the school; the teachers’ lounge area including wifi; and additional classroom renovations
