Fundraiser for Gabriel's service dog.

Hello, my name is Aurora Guzman, and I am fundraising for our son Gabriel to get a service dog. When Gabriel was seven months old, we noticed that he was not reaching the milestones children at that age would do. At the age of one, he started walking, but he did not babble nor say, mom and dad. At two years old, we noticed that he started saying a few words, but then at 2 1/2 years old, he stopped saying words. At that point, we didn't know what was going on. The pediatrician said maybe Gabriel was taking his time to talk. He was able to eat and enjoyed everything we gave him. He ate beans and rice, chicken nuggets, milk, and other things children like to eat and drink. Then he stopped eating and drinking everything he used to enjoy. At the age of 3, we took him to the Knights of Columbus development center in St. Louis where we used to live, and they evaluated him. They told us he could be autistic. On December 10, 2021, he was finally diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, and Mixed Receptive-Language disorder. Before he got diagnosed with ASD at the age of 2, he started getting speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, and physical therapy. These have helped him a lot, but he is still nonverbal, and it frustrates him that he cannot communicate with us about his needs. Doctors, teachers, and others have told us that getting a service dog can help him control his frustration. His previous school had a service dog, and his teachers told us whenever Gabriel would try to hurt his head, the service dog would help calm him down. He loved that. We are trying hard to get all the help for our son. If there is anything we can do to help stop his frustration and prevent him from running to the road or hurting his head, we will do it. Anyone who knows our son will understand our situation. Many people do not know what he is going through, and people may think that he is just a child having tantrums. It's more than that. Having this dog will be beneficial for him and us. I am a stay-at-home mom who takes care of all our kids. My husband is the only one working right now due to my son's therapies and all other appointments. We are fundraising for a service dog and with all the training, it can be very expensive. This service dog will be beneficial for Gabriel. Anything you can donate will be appreciated and will make a positive impact on our son's life. May god bless my family and everyone.

Cuando Gabriel tenía siete meses, notamos que no estaba alcanzando los hitos que los niños a esa edad harían. A la edad de un año, comenzó a caminar, pero no balbuceaba ni decía mamá y papá. A los dos años, notamos que comenzó a decir algunas palabras, pero luego, a los 2 años y medio, dejó de decir palabras. En ese momento, no sabíamos lo que estaba pasando. El pediatra dijo que tal vez Gabriel se estaba tomando su tiempo para hablar. Pudo comer y disfrutó de todo lo que le dimos. Comía frijoles y arroz, nuggets de pollo, leche y otras cosas que a los niños les gusta comer y beber. Luego dejó de comer y beber todo lo que solía disfrutar. A la edad de 3 años, lo llevamos al centro de desarrollo de Caballeros de Colón en St. Louis, donde solíamos vivir, y lo evaluaron. Nos dijeron que podía ser autista. El 10 de diciembre de 2021, finalmente fue diagnosticado con trastorno del espectro autista, retraso global del desarrollo y trastorno mixto del lenguaje receptivo. Antes de que le diagnosticaran TEA a la edad de 2 años, comenzó a recibir terapia del habla, terapia ocupacional, terapia conductual y fisioterapia. Estos le han ayudado mucho, pero todavía no es verbal, y le frustra que no pueda comunicarse con nosotros sobre sus necesidades. Los médicos, maestros y otros nos han dicho que conseguir un perro de servicio puede ayudarlo a controlar su frustración. Su escuela anterior tenía un perro de servicio, y sus maestros nos dijeron que cada vez que Gabriel intentaba lastimarse la cabeza, el perro de servicio lo ayudaba a calmarse. Le encantaba eso. Estamos tratando de obtener toda la ayuda para nuestro hijo. Si hay algo que podamos hacer para ayudar a detener su frustración y evitar que corra a la carretera o se lastime la cabeza, lo haremos. Cualquiera que conozca a nuestro hijo entenderá nuestra situación. Muchas personas no saben por lo que está pasando, y la gente puede pensar que es solo un niño que tiene rabietas. Es más que eso. Tener este perro será beneficioso para él y para nosotros. Soy una madre que se queda en casa y cuida de todos nuestros hijos. Mi esposo es el único que trabaja en este momento debido a las terapias de mi hijo y todas las demás citas. Estamos recaudando fondos para un perro de servicio y con todo el entrenamiento, puede ser muy costoso. Este perro de servicio será beneficioso para Gabriel.
