Hi, my name is Izzy and I am a 3rd year physiotherapy student in UCD! I have been given the opportunity to travel with 4 other physiotherapy students to volunteer in the Ferrando Speech and Hearing project in Meghalaya, India this summer with UCDVO. I will be providing essential physiotherapy to children and families with disabilities. My goal is to raise money which will go towards supporting UCDVO's overseas partners to run vital health, education, livelihoods and community developmental programme. I would be really grateful if you were able to donate any amount at all towards this wonderful programme. Sharing this link with friends or family would also be hugely appreciated. Thank you! About UCDVO: UCD Volunteers Overseas (UCDVO) is a registered charity founded in 2003 by the late Fr. Tony Coote, based within UCD Global and are governed by a Board of Trustees. UCDVO’s 2023 Volunteer Programme will combine the best of in-person global citizenship education with responsible international volunteering. It prioritises a responsible and ethical approach to international volunteering and global citizenship education to create a vibrant active citizenship programme. The volunteering projects are developed with UCDVO’s partners in the following areas: public health (including nutrition and physiotherapy), education, livelihoods, agriculture and community development. About the Ferrando Speech and Hearing centre, Shillong, Meghalaya: UCDVO has partnered with the Ferrando Speech & Hearing Centre in Shillong, Meghalaya, since 2014. The Ferrando Centre provides specialist care for the prevention and reduction of the effects of preventable hearing impairment in young children through early identification, intervention, and preschool education. Alongside this, the Ferrando team work towards the empowerment of the families to face the challenges in bringing up their hearing-impaired children. UCDVO volunteers and local staff undertake community visits, a residential rehabilitation camp on disability awareness and physiotherapy programmes for families and children with physical disabilities.
