TW: Violence, Robbery, weapons.
Hello,
On March 27th, while in Panama, helping friends sail their 45ft sail boat through the Panama canal. The boat was boarded by men with guns and machetes. They broke into the boat, attacked Davey and the other 3 crew members. They ransacked all of their belongings and threw off their 6 month old puppy Stella. (Thank godness for the Panamanian Military who after 5 dys of searching found her and she is now back with them)
They were anchored at isla la mina just after dark they were boarded by four armed attackers. They were then held hostage for an hour and a half. Davey's calm, quick and selfless thinking helped him to survive and protect the life of a fellow passenger.
They robbed Davey of all his material things, electronics, clothing but more importantly, his passport was stolen. Which unfortunately has made his re entry to the US a very difficult and possibly a lengthy process.
They have been deeply traumatised by thse events and after many phone conversations with him, Davey just wants to be home with his family and loved ones. As of this moment he is on the boat with 2 other crew members. Their plan to sail to Miami, by which time he hopes to be allowed entry into the US and to have the State department have a new passport for him. In the mean time, they are on that same sailboat that they were attacked on, in the Gulf of Mexico, making the crossing - hopefully to safe find safe and welcoming harbor in Miami.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
As many of you know, Davey's work greatly depends on him being physically present and able to work. So I have created this fundraiser to aid not only in his journey home, the replacement of stolen goods but also to help Davey pay off bills and expenses that have accrued during this time.
I know we have all been touched by Daveys generous spirit and and helpful attitude throughout the years, wether he has helped you move, coached your child, helped you with your car he has been an unwaivering pillar of support in our community and I hope we can perhaps return to him some of the love, care and support he has so given freely to us.
I thank you greatly for reading this and responding to the situation, Davey has been floored by the kindness and generosity of the boating community, Rotary Panama, The Panamanian military, and many other services both down there and here in the states. So lets show him how loved and supported he truly is AND help to bring him home safely.
