Fundraiser for David and Rose
Donation protected
Hi everyone! I am making this Gofundme for a long time area resident who has fallen on some tough times - I have written up as much as I can for those who aren't close to the situation, included the link to the original nextdoor page and have included a note from Chantal who is another local resident who is going to be assisting in this process. We appreciate the help.
Many of you may know of David from the area. He is readily seen at the Shirlington dog park with his 9 year old pittie Rose or just walking through the area.
They are currently living in a very tiny pull behind trailer that he tows with his pickup. He has to move every so often as there aren't places where he can just park for days on end. His truck is having some mechanical issues and the trailer heater needs replaced or overhauled sooner than later.
Rose has cancer and is on chemotherapy - luckily he has received help for her medicine at this point but small things like daily ice to keep the medication cold has become an issue.
I originally met David a while back and Chantal’s story below closely resembles mine:
“Driving home after a late night two weeks ago, I spotted a man and his dog standing at the 395 Exit near Shirlington with a sign indicating he was looking for work. I watched as the sweet pup looked up lovingly at the man as he gently reassured her. I recognized them immediately as Dave and Rose from the Shirlington Dog Park. I remembered meeting them almost immediately after my kids and I moved to Fairlington in 2016 and adopted our rescue, Emma. We often chatted about our dogs, and he mentioned he was a dog trainer. I was so impressed with the connection between Dave and Rose and was blown away with how docile she was despite wearing a muzzle. He shared that she had been rescued from a kill shelter in Georgia, and I could see that he had worked tenderly with her since adopting her seven years ago. It think it’s evident to anyone who’s seen them together that she’s the best behaved dog in the park! Dave was too humble to ask me for anything that night, but as he explained his situation, I could see there were number of things he and Rose could use. He is very kind and trust-worthy. I have hired him to work with Emma, who is now 4 and has never taken an obedience class, though she has clearly developed a few habits that need correcting. We had our first training session this week, and Dave’s knowledge and patience were beyond extraordinary!”
And this is why we are here.... Over the past few days we have gotten him in touch with several people offering him small jobs to keep him moving forward but could use some help getting a deposit for an apartment and a few extra dollars for emergencies. I have helped him with clothing and shoes for interviews and someone even is donating a gym membership so he has a steady place to shower.
The collective on the Nextdoor page (see below) felt it was a good idea to start a fundraiser to get him a down payment on an apartment and give him a cushion for any emergencies especially during these cold months. He is truly 1 bad event from being out on the street and that's what we are trying to prevent.
I want to thank all those who donate in advance for the help - one or two other members from the Nextdoor page will be with me to deliver the proceeds. If you have any questions please contact me through Nextdoor.
